| HUMAN SYSTEMS EUROPE JOINS UK GOVERNMENT LIST OF ACCREDITED CATALIST SUPPLIERS | |||
Human Systems has joined the Office of Government Commerce Buying Solution's list of accredited public sector suppliers as part of a consortium led by Actica Consulting, an independent organisation specialising in the provision of management and technical consultancy services. The consortium was successful along with 7 other companies out of some 120 who bid to offer outsourced consultancy services in the government and defence sectors. The Office of Government Commerce Buying Solution's Framework Programme is designed to provide government departments and other public sector bodies with access to a list of accredited suppliers, minimising the time and resources taken up by lengthy procurement processes. By enabling the public sector to select both quickly and easily the supplier that best suits their needs, the time and resources needed are reduced, leading to greater efficiency and reduced costs. The framework was divided into a number of subject areas, each of which was subject to a separate bidding process. While Human Systems only bid in the consultancy area, other subjects included resourcing, goods and services and solutions. The award means that Human Systems will be able to offer consultancy support to government department projects in such areas as human resources, finance and administration, customer relationship management and facilities management. The consortium was awarded accredited supplier status in the Organisational Consultancy Framework by meeting a series of stringent criteria including previous experience in relevant areas, value for money and the range of experience and number of consultants available within the consortium. Current public sector
clients of Human Systems, in the UK, include The Department for Work
and Pensions and the Ministry of Defence (Defence Procurement Agency). |

|||
It’s not too late to participate in Human Systems’ latest research, aiming to review the business benefits offered by a Project Support Office (PSO) function. This new report will build on the results from an earlier survey in 2002, to produce a clear indication of industry trends. The survey will take just 15 minutes to complete. To thank you for your participation, we will send you a copy of the final report, which will help you understand the wide range of approaches that can be taken and the positioning of your own corporate PSO function. |||
| PROJECTS,
PROGRAMMES & PORTFOLIOS What do the terms mean, and how do they relate? |
|||
| There
are no ‘semantic absolutes’ where the terms ‘project’,
‘programme’ and ‘portfolio’ are concerned, and no
single organisation has authority to impose generic definitions. Nevertheless
all three terms describe different elements of the never-ending search for
improved methods of managing innovation and change.
In this white paper, Dr Terry Cooke-Davies explores definitions and their implications for best practices. |

| WORKSHOPS | |||
The 5th Annual Global Workshop is to be held on 6th & 7th September in Bristol, kindly hosted by Network members AXA-Sun Life. This is Human Systems’ premium forum for senior level members of the global network. Representatives from Shell, DPA, Watson Wyatt, GlaxoSmithKline, Hewlett Packard and BT have already registered - to name just a few! Both days will be filled with opportunities for sharing experience and best practice and all attendees will leave with practical ideas to take back to their organisations - ideas that can make a real difference to performance. We will draw upon case studies from best practice leaders such as John Cartwright, General Manager - Corporate Process Governance for Siemens, and Chris Venning, previously Head of Change Governance at Barclays. We will analyse what ‘superior capability’ looks like, and how organisations can target the right level of capability to match both their environment and their aspirations.
Attendance at this workshop is free to members, inclusive of all refreshments, lunches and the Network Dinner. Discounted rates for accommodation at the Marriott Hotel in Bristol are available and full details can be found in the workshop programme. To
find out more about the global workshop, please contact Rebecca Phillips

| MAY 2006, PROJECT LESSONS WORKSHOP - EUROPE | |||
| Many organisations methodically record 'lessons learned' from projects, but few seem to re-use the learning when it comes to starting new projects! Such was the observation that led to this insightful workshop at the Heathrow Hilton in May. The Europe network met to share experiences in this area and work together towards a vision of best practice. These are some of the comments that came from the workshop: “Great way of building on ideas instantly” “A fantastic and extremely valuable event. Many actionable insights and great networking opportunities” “Excellent opportunity for us to have an influence on HS future work. Nice to see such responsiveness” The critical learning that emerged from the workshop was that the best way to learn about something is directly from the experience of those who have ‘done it’ ie through a structured knowledge management system. There are two practical routes to this:
Both of these elements are available now from Human Systems but, as improvement is our culture, we identified some ways to make things better still! Network
members can view output from this workshop on the Human
Systems' Intranet. |
