PMI UK ChapterDr Terry Cooke-Davies, Executive Chairman, Human Systems International, presents One of the five directions for new project management research recently identified by the "Rethinking Project Management" Network, was to move from the simple life cycle model of projects and the often unexamined assumption that this is in some way the actual reality "out there" in the world, towards the development of new models and theories that recognise and illuminate the complexity of projects and project management at all levels. Drawing on two talks given during the second half of 2006 to audiences at the PMI Research Conference in Montreal, and to invited business leaders from the Aerospace and Engineering Construction Industries at a PMI Business Round Table in London, Dr Terry Cooke-Davies will explore both what some of these theories might look like, and also what impact they might have on our professional understanding of what it means to struggle with the messy task of managing complex projects in today's world. |
