For the past three years, Dr Volker Stroenisch has been Vice President of Project Management in Bombardier Transportation at the company’s headquarters in Berlin.

Having studied Electrical Engineering at the Technical University in Berlin, he undertook research work there between 1983-1988 on Powerelectronic/DriveSystems/Drive Control. His research concluded with a doctorate in 1988.

He then started to work as an electrotechnical engineer at AEG-Westinghouse and later led the development department of Powerelectronics in Daimler-Chrysler Rail Systems. He was also responsible for leading the project management of  the Metro Shanghai, delivering more than 200 Metro cars for Adtranz. By 1999, Dr Stroenisch was Program Director for a portfolio of Metro projects including projects in China (Guangzhou, Shenzhen), Greece and Germany. In 2003, after the acquisition of Adtranz by Bombardier, Volker moved to the  headquarters in Berlin, acting first as Vice President  of  Engineering before moving into the actual position,  taking  responsibility for Group Project Management.
