Getting Earned Value to Earn its Keep
Metronet has been on a journey over the last 2 years implementing an Earned Value Management (EVM) system, primarily at the request of their client London Underground and subsequently for their own reasons. This presentation covers that story in terms of the people using the tools and their reactions to what the outputs showed; it is not a technical presentation on how they did it.
What they found was that software and process only take you a little way - benefit comes when understanding reaches critical mass. At this point, there is a run away competition between the strategic analysts and project teams, as each tries to understand the messages EVM is telling them and what needs to be done as a result.
Today EVM data is a critical part of Metronet’s balanced scorecard and is driving a root and branch improvement in the performance tracking of capital projects.
