Presentation Summary

Over the last decade, the project management office (PMO) has become a prominent feature in many organisations but very little research has been undertaken on this topic. Monique Aubry and Brian Hobbs have undertaken a multi-phases research program in order to develop a better understanding of PMOs.

Results form this research will be presented including :

1) the portrait of the reality of PMOs from a survey with over 500 respondents;

2) a proposal for a framework to capture the organisational context of PMO;

3) results from case studies that shed light on the structuring process of PMO rather than try to typify their configuration.

Together, these results contribute to shape expectations from PMO in terms of its value added to the organisation.
