Book now to learn lessons from megaprojects that can be applied to those we work with day to day.
We hear a lot in the media about problems that have occurred with high profile megaprojects. These projects are not so very different from the smaller projects that many of us work with on a daily basis. The behaviours that affect their success are the same and when their issues are highlighted and magnified for us, it is invaluable to analyse them and find out what we can learn for our own environments.
Professor Bent Flyvberg is an expert in this area and his book Megaprojects and Risk: An Anatomy of Ambition (Cambridge University Press, 2003) reveals many truths. Join us at this workshop to hear his introductory keynote presentation. |
“The promoters of multi-billion-dollar megaprojects systematically and self-servingly misinform parliaments, the public and the media in order to get projects approved and built. The formula for approval is an unhealthy cocktail of: underestimated costs, overestimated revenues, undervalued environmental impacts, & overvalued economic development effects. Result = High risks concealed from MPs, taxpayers and investors.”
Bent Flyvberg
During this workshop we will focus on the issues surrounding the initiation stage of a project. Much that happens before a project even begins can influence its eventual results. Learn from Bent Flyvberg and speakers such as Tim Banfield, Director of Defence Acquisition Studies at the National Audit Office, who share their thoughts and their experiences.
This is an ideal opportunity for Europe Network members to assess how environmental and organisational matters impact a project; is the right team in place, with the right resources? Are the correct authorisations in place?
Register now to ensure your place at this highlight in our 2007 workshop calendar.
Attendance at this workshop is free to members, inclusive of all refreshments and lunch. |
