MELLOR HENNESSY
Global Portfolio Strategist, AstraZeneca

Mellor Hennessy has over 20 years’ experience of designing, implementing and supporting corporate business processes and has been with AstraZeneca since the merger.

Starting his career with ICI in the early 1980s with an interdisciplinary PhD, Mellor has broad experience of line and project management in control engineering and IT functions. After a spell in the ICI Corporate Laboratory, transferring planning practices across ICI divisions, he joined Zeneca Pharmaceuticals with responsibilities for implementing portfolio management in their R&D and then their commercial organization. When Astra and Zeneca merged in 1999, Mellor was part of the portfolio integration task force which designed the process, governance and tools, and specified the portfolio information required from project teams. Since then he has been part of the cross function Portfolio Management Group which supports and continuously improves the portfolio process.

Three years ago, Mellor took on additional responsibilities for R&D business performance management and he co-leads a network of 20 individuals with performance management responsibility in their functional areas. He is part of the team that creates the scorecard and reports on the performance of an R&D organization of 10,000 people. His current role includes risk management and its integration with portfolio and performance management.
